I'm still fairly new to this blogging thing and have been learning as I go.
I was wondering what is the best way to respond to comments on my blog?
Or, better yet, how would you prefer I respond to your comments?
I've been responding in my own comment section because that seems to be the most popular way but I know that I don't always go back to a post I've commented on so I know a lot of people probably will never see my response.
Which is fine but sometimes you guys say something really cool and I want to make sure you know I read it and liked it.
So,
should I go to your blog and respond in YOUR comment section to something you wrote in mine?
or
Should I send you an email response?
Maybe message you on Twitter?
Facebook?
As you can see I'm a lost newbie blogger! Lol!

Lots of bloggers do comment in their own comment section. But recently bloggers who find a particular comment of interest will reply by email. I hope this helps some.
ReplyDeleteAnytime I comment on someone else's blogspot, I bookmark it and check back later to see if they've responded. This isn't an issue with WordPress blogs, since you can respond directly to a comment and it should email the person to notify them of a response. (If they have their email notifications enabled, that is. ;) )
ReplyDeleteMost people comment in their own comment sections. Some email their responses. I wish Blogger had a reply button, so you could reply directly to a comment and the person who commented would get the notice. Sometimes, I respond on the other person's blog with a RYC (Re: your comment).
ReplyDeleteYes, I've been getting a few e-mail comment, recently. I don't know how people do that, they smart.
ReplyDeleteI usually just respond in the comments section on my own blog.
If I write a comment on someone's blog that might garner a repsonse, say a question, I usually subscribe. So it all works out well.
Does that make sense?
I think the way you've been responding to comments is fine. I generally do it the same way.
ReplyDeleteI typically just respond in the comments section. Like Deborah said, if I post a comment where I'm looking for a response or at least am interested in the conversation, I'll subscribe. Don't worry about being a newbie...we're all just winging it. Some just have more experience at winging it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI respond in the comments section of my own post as well. I've heard of some people also sending that response to individuals by e-mail, but depending on the amount of comments, that could be a bit much to me. I also used to subscribe to comments sections, but don't now because it would be too many e-mails coming my way. If it is a blog I read regularly, I'll see if the author responded.
ReplyDeleteI respond within my own comments section. If the reader asks a direct question, I'll leave a note on their blog letting them know I've responded. I'm sort of OC about comments, after seeing my own taken out of context on the web, I've deactivated the crawling service, so none of my reader's comments get thrown out into the webosphere to later come back and haunt them.
ReplyDeleteSame here. I respond in my comment section, but I'll also swing by their blog if they have one.
ReplyDeleteWanted to say "hi" to a fellow campaigner. I am new to blogging as well, so I'm not sure how much help I can offer.
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda! I am in your group, and thought I would pop over and introduce myself. Relatively new to blogging myself. I usually reply in my own comment section, as well as visit the sites of those commenting.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet a fellow thriller writer! Love your blog's graphics, and please consider me a new follower.
Hi, Amanda. I'm a fellow campaigner and new follower.
ReplyDeleteI comment back in the comments section and then a few days later I visit everyone's blog to return the comment love. I found this to be the easiest way for me, but of course everyone needs to find their own groove. I know bloggers do other things that also work.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
I'm struggling with this too! I always respond in my own comments, but then I try to go visit the bloggers that have commented on my own as well. It's super time consuming, but also worth it because I've happened upon some really great blogs!
ReplyDeleteHello from a fellow campaigner. You seem to be doing really well for a new blogger! I didn't read the other comments, but, for me... I guess it would be to visit my blog to leave the comment. I do try to return to blogs and check out the comments, but I often run out of time and don't get to do that. But I do try. Enjoy the campaign!
ReplyDeleteI like replying by email when I can. If I can't I'll reply in the comments section and try and visit their blog as well. I'm not campaigning this time around, hope you don't mind that I responded.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the responding in your own comments section but if it is something that bears special consideration, you might send an email. I'm stopping by from the campaign by the way! Nice to "meet" you.
ReplyDeleteHi fellow Campaigner--When I enter a comment, I always request to be notified when others respond. I'm sure Blogger tells you about every comment, so you won't miss our thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHello there! I'm a fellow campaigner in your horror group. If it's a comment that I have a reply to, I typically just respond in my comments section. Sometimes comments are too short or simply aren't conversational enough for me to have a good reply to, so I just let them be. =)
ReplyDeleteI think that if you really have something to say, or a question to answer to the blogger, then email them. I still write comments in my comment box sometimes, but the best thing to do is to visit your commenters blog's and support them back. At least, I think that's what's best. I've tried tons of different things but I'm always learning too!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
So the general consensus is to continue responding in my own comment section and to email when seemed necessary. :)
ReplyDeleteOk, great to know!
You guys are great! Thanks for all the responses. I really appreciate it.
@Kari~ Of course I don't mind! ☺ I need all the help I can get! Thank you. :)
Oh this was so useful for me :) I am very new at blogging and I had just been commenting on my blog (not knowing any other way of doing things) so pleased that this is what is generally done. I'm a Campaigner and a follower :)
ReplyDeleteI try to reply to comments via email, depending on time. But I always visit and comment on the blog of someone who leaves me a comment. If someone takes the time to read and comment on my blog, I always return the favor.
ReplyDeleteGreat question! Wordpress is awesome because of their inline replies, so I reply to the comment directly. I also make it a point to "return the favor" and visit, comment, and subscribe to others' blogs, too!
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda!
ReplyDeleteYanno, it's completely up to you! I think it depends on your post - if people have left great comments, others probably will too! So, if you go back in and comment on something that was said, anyone that visits in the future can see your response.
Does it mean you have to respond to everyone? I don't think so at all. But it's always nice to recognize comments that resonate with you - not to mention, it also starts to bond you to other writers. If someone left a great comment (or even a challenging one) you'll probably head over to their blog, read a few of their posts, and leave a comment for them, too.
Great question! Best of luck getting your feet under you as you traverse the blogosphere - you're on the right path! :)
Thanks for asking the question I've been wanting to ask. :)
ReplyDeleteSo now I know that I haven't been doing anything terribly wrong either.
